Did Ezekiel Elliott Leave The Dallas Cowboys

Ezekiel Elliott Released by Dallas Cowboys

Breaking News

Cowboys Save $11 Million in Cap Space

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has been released by the team just hours before the start of the new league year, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday.

Elliott, who was designated a post-June 1 cut, will save the Cowboys nearly $11 million against the 2023 salary cap, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. However, he will still count for a little more than $1 million in dead money.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones released a statement explaining the decision, saying that the team is "committed to building a championship-caliber roster" and that the move was made "after careful consideration of all of our options."

Elliott, 27, has been a key part of the Cowboys' offense since being drafted fourth overall in 2016. He has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his first six seasons and has made three Pro Bowls.

The Cowboys are reportedly expected to sign free agent running back Tony Pollard, who has been Elliott's backup for the past several seasons.
